Gotta love Archer for the obscure cultural references. Last week’s (new) episode had a throw-away line of Archer condescending to Cyril to the effect of “Cool it, Alexander Miles” as they were trapped in a malfunctioning elevator.
Sure as hell, Alexander Miles was a distinguished African-American inventor who gave us the automatic elevator safety door that has saved thousands of lives. That’s a solid TIL.

I missed that particular one, but I do love the super random bits of trivia dropped into that show.

I haven’t started the new season of Archer yet, and I definitely would have had to look up this reference .
Makes me think of Colson Whitehead’s The Intuitionist , the best novel about warring schools of elevator inspection philosophy I’ve ever read. (It’s also a damned good read on its own merits , and doesn’t require that weird qualification to be judged as such.)
